India’s 5 Major Retaliatory Actions After Pahalgam Terror Attack (2025)

What Happened in Pahalgam?

  • A terror incident took place in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22, 2025.
  • 26 innocent tourists were killed. They were just visiting, they didn't do anything wrong.
  • This happened after elections were done peacefully in Jammu & Kashmir and people there were focusing on development and jobs.
  • India blamed cross-border terrorism – which means attackers came from or were helped from Pakistan side.
  • The Indian government became very serious and called a big meeting called Cabinet Committee on Security led by PM Modi.

🇮🇳 India's 5 Big Retaliatory Actions Against Pakistan

1. Stopped the Indus Waters Treaty

💧 What is it?

  • Since 1960, India and Pakistan were sharing river waters of the Indus river system (6 rivers).

  • India used 3 eastern rivers (Ravi, Beas, Sutlej) and Pakistan used 3 western ones (Indus, Jhelum, Chenab).

💥 What India did now:

  • India said "No more water-sharing!" and suspended the agreement.

  • It may block or reduce water that goes to Pakistan.

💡 Why this matters:

  • Pakistan’s 90% farming depends on these waters.

  • If India blocks water, Pakistan will face big problems in farming and food.

  • It’s a non-military but powerful action.

2. Closed the Attari-Wagah Border

🚧 What is it?

  • This is the main road connection between India and Pakistan.

  • It is also where the famous Beating Retreat ceremony happens every day.

💥 India’s action:

  • India completely closed this border.

  • No people, no goods, no ceremonies — all stopped.

💡 Why this matters:

  • Trade was already very little. Now even that is gone.

  • Families can’t meet. Cultural and people-to-people links broke down.

  • Shows no friendship anymore.

3. Cancelled All Visas for Pakistanis

🛂 What is it?

  • Normally, people like journalists, students, diplomats could visit under SAARC Visa Scheme.

💥 India’s action:

  • All Pakistani people’s visas were cancelled — even for students and patients.

  • They were told to leave India in 48 hours.

  • No new visas will be given anymore.

💡 Why this matters:

  • Students, sick people, artists – all affected badly.

  • India is sending a message — “No peace, no normal life!”

  • Also increases internal security by reducing chances of sleeper cells or spies.

4. Called Back Indian Diplomats from Pakistan

📨 What is it?

  • Both India and Pakistan have embassies (called High Commissions) in each other's countries.

💥 India’s action:

  • India told its diplomats in Islamabad to come back home.

  • Only a small team will stay now — just for show.

💡 Why this matters:

  • No proper communication now.

  • No consular help, no peace talks.

  • It’s like saying “We don’t wanna talk to you anymore.”

5. Banned SAARC Visa Scheme for Pakistan

🌏 What is it?

  • SAARC is a group of 8 South Asian countries that helps in peace and trade.

  • Journalists and officials were able to travel with ease because to special visas.

💥 India’s action:

  • Pakistan is now removed from this benefit.

  • They can’t travel freely to India anymore, not even for SAARC events.

💡 Why this matters:

  • Regional unity is broken.

  • India is saying: “No cooperation if you don't stop terrorism.”

🧠 My view: India is not just cutting Pakistan off — it's cutting them out of South Asian teamwork.

🧠 Final Thoughts: Why All This Is Important?

  1. India is showing it’s super serious now – no more tolerance for terror attacks.

  2. These 5 steps are non-military, but very strong.

  3. India wants to:

    • Isolate Pakistan diplomatically.

    • Pressure their economy.

    • Stop terrorism support.

    • Keep India safe.

  4. No military attack... yet. But this is India’s way of saying, “We can strike, but we are trying smart pressure first.”

  5. Pakistan is denying all this and said they want neutral investigation, but India isn’t waiting anymore.
